Since September 2024, Oros dSdS and Daniela have been the first operational team for the Swiss Alpine Rescue with a Belgian Groenendael Shepherd - surface search for missing persons. Their journey has not been easy! To reach this goal, after an 8-12 month probationary and training period, the pair must pass an aptitude test (leash and off-leash handling, down/stay in various situations, directional commands on a visible helper). This begins the specific training program for surface search. The pair must complete two technical modules spaced one year apart. Each module is followed by a final test, and only if the final test is passed can the dog progress to the next module. Each module can be repeated, if failed, up to two times, after which the dog cannot continue training. The training concludes with the operational test, a search test lasting approximately 5 hours in alpine terrain. Oros passed the aptitude test in October 2022 and, after passing both training modules on the first try, became operational yesterday. Daniela wrote me these exact words: "Thanks to the Path of Dreams for the careful and meticulous selection of the Belgian Shepherd's morpho-functional traits, which inspires breeding and leads to the desired results. May our happiness reach Silvano." Dani, in all of this, I want to personally thank you for all the work you've done with Oros, and we both know that Silvano, from up there, is supporting and following you every step of the way. And he is the proudest of you; he has always believed in your pairing, even when you yourself believed you couldn't make it. You are, first and foremost, a great friend, the kind you meet only a few times in a lifetime, and for that I can only thank Silvano, who brought us together through thick and thin. The entire pack sends you a huge hug from Castel del Rio, and we can't wait for you to come back to properly celebrate this great achievement you've absolutely earned. There's still a long way to go, but you have an angel by your side always watching over you. I love you and thank you so much for everything you do for me and the pack.
